Okay instead of just a link to my domain, I decided to add a little blurb about me and writing, not my age and random facts. As a Writer
I write, not because I can, but because it's the best way for me to express myself. I do know I'm not a great writer and I wouldn't consider myself a good one either. I do appreciate it when people tell me they love my writing; it's all very sweet and appreciated. I don't get support from my offline friends because I refuse to share my writing with them besides school writing (mostly prose).Writing is my everything. It's like when people write "music = life," well, writing is my life. I have to have a writing portfolio; I could care less about a traditional/digital art portfolio for myself. Without writing, I really don't know how I would express myself. Yes, I express myself through graphics and traditional art, but it's not the same because when I write, my message is clear. When I draw or make graphics, my message is not so clear because I need words.
I have no performing talent since I quit playing the violin and the keyboard. I don't perform dancing, singing, or act at all. I'm an applied arts type of individual. I wished I was the performing type, but I'm far too shy. Writing is my only way to show my inner thoughts clearly.
When I was younger, I wrote a lot of "teen angst" type poems and truthfully, they did make me feel better. Once in a while, I would write a better poem that wasn't teen angst. The first award I won for writing poetry was in 5th grade (1st Place), when I actually entered a poem. It definitely wasn't teen angst, it was a poem about believing in one's self. Unfortunately, I do not have a copy of that poem.
Now that I'm older and better educated, I learned that my teen angst was terrible. I have improved a great deal, but I don't write poetry nearly as much as I used to. The only time I write now is when I'm feeling very inspired or/and in the "writing mood." I do suffer writer's block, greatly.
Favorite Famous Poems
To write poetry doesn't mean to ignore great poetic works. Here are some of my personal favorites...Annabel Lee by Edgar Allan Poe (read it)
My Comments: I heard this poem in the beginning of 2006, actually. This poem is just so sad and expresses such love.
Dreams Deferred by Langston Hughes (read it)
My Comments: I think Langston Hughes is a great poet, one of the finest of the Harlem Renaissance (1920's). This poem is so short, but so meaningful.
I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou (read it)
My Comments: I remember reading the book (autobiography?) with the same title years ago, that's when I realized what a great writer Angelou is. I started to read her poems and fell in love with this one and "Phenomenal Woman."
Lily has a Rose by EE Cummings (read it)
My Comments: EE Cummings has a way with words; he is one of my favorites. The words in this poem are very simple, but when analyzed, it's an incredible poem.
Phenomenal Woman by Maya Angelou (read it)
My Comments: This poem is ranked in my top three, not necessarily number one, but it has a special place in my heart (as corny as that may sound). "Phenomenal Woman" means so much to me because I know a lot of women can relate to it.
The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost (read it)
My Comments: I first heard this poem in 5th grade and instantly knew it would stay one of my favorites. There's two roads and he takes the one that hardly anyone takes. That's the kind of person I am, I would take the different road just because.
